Learn About Our Team

This project exists due to a collaboration between Southwest Creations Collaborative and Young Children’s Health Center. Together we bring you the Salud Manual in both print and online. We also partner with Sandoval County Community Health Alliance and Bernalillo County Community Health Alliance in the creation and maintenance of our database.

The Salud Manual exists to reduce health disparities for the exceedingly large population of the un/under-insured in New Mexico. Specifically, this projects addresses health access by creating and building upon this online and print resource AND providing education and outreach about using it. A huge part of our project is to train community leaders to build their technical and advocacy capacities and then pass that onto others. They have created this website and the comics from their point-of-view and they provide the expertise needed at reaching their fellow community members. Community media like this is a unique and engaging way to address health issues. We hope you enjoy and find useful what we have created so far! Be sure to look for more soon!

I'm Judith Velo I'm from Chihuahua,Mexico.I have 1 years and half working in the proyect Salud Manual, with this proyect I am work with the community for learn search resourses of health using the computers what is that things what like more.I worked making the new design for this website.

Mi name is Sonia Medina, I was born in Cd. Juarez Chih. I have lived in Albuquerque N.M. for 7 years. I have been working for The Proyecto Salud Manual since january 2006. I am very happy to be able to continue working with the community, I am also involved in helping educate the community in such matters. I am also responsible for the comic for the comic "Barreras cuando piden requisitos no necesarios"

Hi!!! My name is Azucena Molinar and being on the Salud Manual project has been a huge challenge for me, from learning about computer technology to facilitating workshops, to getting the community interested in learning about health resources. I'm ready to learn more and share it with you if you'd like. I created the educational comic titled "Transportation Barriers." It has a lot of educational information - I recommend it.

My name is Veronica Salazar and I’m from Mexico City. I’ve lived in Albuquerque now for 5 years. I wanted to be a part of this project to be able to help my community. I’m just learning at this point and everything that I do learn I want to share with you. I’m an immigrant to the U.S. just like many of you using our site. I also did not know about health resources like you can find on this site. This is an interesting site y it’s easy to use. I hope it’s a helpful resource for you.

My name is Marcela Rodríguez and I’m originally from Aguascalientes, México. I just started with the project in August 2007. By being informed I can help others grow personally and in terms of tecnology. I think we should never just conform to what we know. The Salud Manual is a way to learn more because it gives us the opportunity to be informed y demonstrate who we are and how far we can go.

My name is Sara Nelson and I'm the Project Coordinator. It has been an exciting challenge for all of us to bring you this resource and our workshops; we do it because we see a need to connect the uninsured community to resources and information. The work that our leaders (community media health workers) have done on this project is admirable. Now they are not only comfortable with technology but also with public speaking and talking with the larger community about health barriers and ways to overcome them. I'm a part of the SALUD project because I believe health care is a Human right, regardless of language, where you come from or how much you can pay. I believe the community has a role to play in educating each other about our rights to quality health services, and that more education will lead to better opportunities. The SALUD media techs are a sample of the wealth of knowledge and talent our community has to off.They are an inspiration for all of us who believe positive change is possible.
